THE FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS – Izzy Ferguson
THE FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS by Elizabeth Ferguson
004
Any of the poems in The First Order Of Business could be the first order of business in a sequence of thoughts, a conversation, a letter, a memoir. The poems follow these threads, documenting slices of experienced life, dreamed life, ideas, and questions.
Boldly, the collection moves from the serious to the hilarious with the blink of the reader's eye or the turning of a page.
Elizabeth Ferguson is a contemporary poet living and working in Portland, Oregon. She goes by Izzy more regularly than Elizabeth, and her second book published with Two Plum Press, Point Of Entry reflects it, as will the upcoming new edition of this book.
excerpt:
GREENSBORO
How sane some appear in love.
I'm like the man Blake saw
dipping newspaper in ketchup
on the side of the road.
How my mind has stopped
for all accustomed things.
Lady, I mean lately, getting
my mink eyes right comes rare.
